E Shyong TAI Precision Health Research, Singapore (PRECISE) Chief Medical Officer The National Precision Medicine Programme
ABSTRACT
The National Precision Medicine Programme (NPM) is a 10-year strategic programme that was initiated in 2016. NPM Phase II began in 2021 and represents a new funding initiative within the Health and Human Potential Domain under Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) 2025 plan. It offers opportunity to develop novel biological insights into the basis of human diseases. In addition, it will be a high priority to identify novel ways to incorporate genomics into clinical practice - in ways that could lead to improved health outcomes in a sustainable manner. This may involve public-private partnerships to bring new products and services to market.
BIO Prof Tai is an endocrinologist and clinician scientist who has been involved in numerous large-scale genetic association studies related to diabetes and metabolic disease. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of PRECISE, the organisation that oversees Phase II of the national precision medicine programme.
