Victor Nurcombe obtained his PhD from the University of Sydney in 1984. Moving on to postdoctoral training at the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry, Germany for a period of 5 years, he returned to the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute at Royal Melbourne Hospital, and thence the University of Melbourne as a Senior Lecturer till 1998. He left Melbourne for the University of Queensland in 1997 to become a Reader and Associate Professor as well as the Head of the Program for Developmental Biology. He joined IMCB as a Principal Investigator in 2003, co-heading a translational research lab with Simon Cool.
